Safety Center

Genie® Company has always been an industry safety leader. Our products feature state-of-the-art safety and security systems including Intellicode® Access Security system, Safe-T-Beam® Diagnostic System and a six-part safety package with automatic reversing features. The following are helpful tips to help ensure safe operation of your garage door and opener.

Garage Doors & Openers

  • Keep people clear of opening while door is moving.
  • Do not allow children to play with door or operator.
  • Do not operate a door that jams or one that has a broken spring.
  • Do not install an operator on an improperly balanced garage door as it may
      cause severe injury.
  • Remove all ropes, lift handles and locks from the garage door before installing any opener.
  • Install garage door opener at least 7’ off the floor and install the Emergency
Release Knob 6’ off the floor.
  • Install Emergency Release Tag on or next to the Emergency Release.
  • Locate wall button:
  • Within site of the garage door.
  • At a minimum height of 5’, so small children cannot reach it.
  • Away from all moving parts of the garage door.
  • Install the Entrapment Warning Label next to the wall button.
  • Do not connect the garage door opener to any power source until instructed to do so.
  • Read and follow all safety, installation and operation instructions. If you have any questions or do not understand an instruction, call your service representative.

High Tension Springs

Do not try to remove, repair or adjust springs or anything to which door spring parts are fastened, such as wood blocks, steel brackets, cables or any like items.Repairs and adjustments to high tension springs must be made by a trained door system technician using proper tools and instructions.

Electrical Shock

  • Turn off power before removing operator cover.
  • When replacing cover, make sure wires are not pinched or near moving parts.
  • Operator must be properly grounded.

MAINTENANCE

Monthly Maintenance

Note: Do not operate door, either with operator or manually, if door springs are broken.  Contact Kenny at (970) 945-8913 for service.
  1. Check your Door Springs and Door Hardware

Oil door rollers, bearing and hinges using silicone lubricant or light oil.

  2. Ensure your Garage Door is balanced properly

    • Close door.
    • Release carriage from rail assembly by pulling emergency release cord.
    • Raise door manually about 3 - 4 feet. (Garage door should remain stationary or move slightly.)

Note: If door moves, have door serviced by a trained door system technician.

    • If door is properly balanced, re-attach carriage to rail assembly by pulling emergency release cord knob toward power head.
    • Close door.

  3. Perform Contact Reverse Test

    • Lay 2” x 4” board flat on the floor in the center of the garage doorway
    • Close door using wall button or remote control (garage door should reverse off 2” x 4” within 2 seconds)

Note: If door fails to reverse on contact with board close force must be lowered. Refer to Contact Reverse section of owners manual. If, after lowering force, the operator still fails to reverse, replace operator or have operator serviced by a professional.

  4. Perform Non-Contact Reverse Test

    • Place an object in the path of the sensor beam and operate the garage door opener. The garage door opener should not begin downward door movement.
    • Activate the garage door opener and insert an object into the path of the sensor beam. (Rolling a ball that is big enough to interrupt the sensor beam works well.)  The garage door opener should stop the downward movement and reverse door travel direction.

Annual Maintenance

  • Lubricate Drive Screw (Screw Drive Operators Only)
Lubricate drive screw using Genie® GLU3 Lubricant
Note: Using anything other than GLU3 Lubricant may damage operator.
